This summer the Weld Free Public Library will be hosting Art and Craft Exhibits of local talented Artists and Craftspeople.
In partnership with the Stanley Museum in Kingfield, this Weld Free Public Library exhibition explores early photography in Franklin County at the turn of the 20th century. The library’s glass plate negatives were salvaged from an attic in Kingfield around 1980. The negatives date to the time of noted photographer Chansonetta Stanley Emmons whose family lived in Kingfield. She documented the lives of people in Maine and around the world during an era of rapid change. There are at least two scenes of Weld in the library’s collection. The longer you look at the prints made from these negatives, the more you will discover! In 2023,
Ginny Hilyard, formerly of Kingfield, graciously donated these fifteen 8×10 inch glass negative plates to the Weld Free Public Library.
There is still opportunity for local artisans to participate in displaying their Art and Crafts at the Library. Please contact the Library for details.
